At South Beach, we think it’s as important to be on-trend at the beach as it is on the street! That’s why we’ve put together a guide to our top three catwalk trends to take heed of this Spring/Summer.
Florals have gone into overdrive for SS13, with designers backing big, colourful flower prints, motifs and details. From the botanical garden prints at Clements Ribeiro, the juicy citrus blossoms at Paul and Joe, through to Oriental splendour at Prada, many had their own take on the floral trend. Choose an oversized, all-over print to nail the look and search for details like 3D and appliquéd flowers to earn extra style points.
Forget chaps and spurs, summer’s western trend is all about rocking a natural, boho look. Take inspiration from the best of the west with fringing, tassels and natural tie dye colours as well as homespun fabrics like crochet and lace as designers like Saint Laurent, Isabel Maurant and Acne Studios opted for. This SS13 trend will work hardest for the summer’s festivals, bringing new season staples like denim dungarees, frayed shorts, crochet waistcoats and grungy checked shirts together with the addition of a brightly-coloured bikini top peeking out from beneath.
If it’s not chic monochrome this Spring/Summer, then it’s ultra-bright! Colour is king with the boldest shades, like citrus, fuschia and cobalt, reigning supreme. This season’s colour pop trend works well in blocks or with over-the-top embellishment, graphics and slogan motifs. Metallic fabrics in jewel colours and candy stripes allude to sweets to bring out your fun side. The trend is heavily influenced by the 80s with old favourites like power shoulders (check out Balmain’s amazing collection), bomber jackets and high-waisted denim making a comeback.
