A day in life of an intern @SOUTH BEACH
A day in life of an intern @SOUTH BEACH
09/11/2016 By southbeach
Starting as an intern at a fashion company led me into thinking it would be a devil wears prada-esque atmosphere. My job role luckily doesn’t include much of tea-making and going on post office runs, instead as a merchandising intern, my days are filled with emailing, surfing the net, arranging new swimwear and constant Krispy Kreme banquets.
WHAT ARE YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES?
My typical day at South Beach HQ starts with being swamped with customers emails, skyping factories across the far east and receiving samples for the new collections.
Once the morning rush has settled, afternoons allow me to be more creative. From researching new trends, thriving on blogger collabs and working to finalise new collections for SS17 and AW17.
Being an intern is so exciting! I have developed an insight into other job roles; from creating trend boards for the buying assistant, designing new towels for SS17 and getting involved in South Beach customer service.
WHAT'S IT LIKE AT SOUTH BEACH HQ?
Like the brand, the atmosphere at South Beach is fun, young and exciting! All the staff are young, quirky and have all made me feel so welcome. A little SB family! Everyone is friends inside and outside of work, so coming to work every day never feels like too much effort. They are all excellent personal shoppers, slowly helping deteriorate my bank balance! However, It’s safe to say I don’t think I’ll want to leave after my internship.

At South Beach, I love spending time in the showrooms- these are full of our current and upcoming collections. From swimwear to beachwear and all accessories in between. It’s the place all South Beach collections come to life. Apart from HQ, inspiration for our collections derive from fun trips to Moda trade show, Pure London and The Clothes Show Live.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE INTERNSHIP SO FAR?
My fave part of the South Beach journey has been getting involved in the Moda trade show. For the set up at Moda I was able to use my VM experience to merchandise the stand, then do a spot of comp shopping around the arena. To make the experience extra special our fitness wear was picked for the runway!

My second favourite experience was going to the SS17 swimwear shoot. After weeks of deciding the ultimate swimwear collection for SS17, it was incredible to see it being modelled ready for the launch next February! This was an all-round 10/10 day, getting to know the model Beth - who is an absolute stunner, to drooling over the mua’s floor filling collection and enjoying Paula the photographer’s homemade lasagne! :-)
